FLUSHING OUT

It is said what happens in a Tarot Reading is part of the reading.

For instance; if I’m reading cards for a client and a car passes on the road outside and our attention is drawn to the sound then look to The Chariot or indeed any cards in the spread having the number 7 (7 being the number of The Chariot).
Perhaps what draws my attention is a banging car stereo say, then it could be bringing The Magician in to mind, or, what may spring to mind is ah! that’s a young person driving past, which can lead me to look and see if any of the cards are representing young people in the querants life, perhaps the young person is the querent and they are looking for ways to find their voice so that they’ll be heard.

To make sense of these “outside events” I need to catch what’s going on through a process called “flushing out”, so regarding young people for example, it could prompt me to ask if there are any young people prominent in my client’s life that are needing to be heard, or It could be that noisy neighbours are an issue…. or are they are having trouble getting things to start, or going somewhere, or is there disorder or a lack of harmony in their life? (as all are significators of The Chariot). It’s not so much the actuality, in fact it could be a much older driver, but the generality of a banging stereo is usually that of someone young. So, you don’t have to see it with your own eyes but it’s catching the message that is being conveyed that matters.

Tarot is about what’s really going on and what’s the question really about. Often a client might not really know what it is they are asking about, or even how to ask and this is where flushing out comes into its own.
There are many layers in a Tarot card and it’s up to me as a reader to discover just what is presenting for examination. You might go to a reader to have insight on getting a new job when in fact it is not really about the job but say issues at home that are the bottom of dissatisfaction with the present employment… It may even be something as obvious as the need for a holiday. Yes, there are cards that indicate holidays and also for peace and quiet.

Difference Between Cards and Stars

I am often asked what the difference between a Tarot (Cards) session and an Astrological (Stars) session is, the answer to that is….
well it all depends on what question/s you are asking.

Tarot and Astrology are both ways of divining what is happening, both in the space outside of you and the large space inside you. Tarot is the study of chaos while Astrology is the study of order.
Allow me to explain a little of what I mean by that. First when the cards go down there is no way you can tell what ones are going to appear, in what order they will appear or what way up they will be.
Astrology on the other hand is an orderly discipline. We know exactly where all the planets were and the conversations they were having with each other for thousands of years, both forwards and back from the time you are reading this …. Cool!

Ok …. When you look at your birth chart what you are seeing is all the potential you are born with, what you have brought with you, the helpful and the not so helpful. All nice and orderly.
Naturally or perhaps unfortunately it does not stay orderly for long. And that’s where other techniques are called for to answer the question what’s going on and how can I make sense of it all? And, perhaps more importantly how can this be beneficial for me?

Astrologically speaking there are many ways which I won’t bore you with to answer these questions but the what’s going on appears to have many different layers to it. And that my friends is where Tarot comes in.
Tarot points the way to where chaos and order meet. Somehow or other, and please don’t ask me how, Tarot has this magical ability to take the multi-layered cake of life you have baked for yourself and brings an orderly focus to what the planets are indicating.

So why choose one or the other? I use astrological techniques every time I read Tarot and when I read a birth chart, I use Tarot techniques.
The difference starts with timing, for astrology to have real impact and to tell a magical story you need to know your birth time as well as the date and place of your birth.

With Tarot all that is needed is your birthday and the magic of life unfolds.

Changing How I Think

By Divine Invitation

I would like to share with you a source of inspiration which helps me stop, find my way through the maze of thoughts, ideas and what seems like the complete chaos I often find myself surrounded by and immersed in.

Hafiz, (14th Century Sufi Mystic and Poet)  talks so eloquently of what I find to be, so often, the case for me. So many times I have had to be stretchered off the field of life to recuperate and lick my wounds in God's Ward. When really all I needed to do was surrender and allow whatever was going to pass, come to pass, without trying so damn hard to steer against the current!

So often I just don't listen to the little voice of my inner being and bash on regardless doing what I think is the right way, knowing full well, if I only cared to reflect and listen, I would see I was heading for the exit from joy into the wasteland of chaos.

Once again, ending up on that stretcher in the ward, where I go, when my head bleeds from its relentless banging against the brick wall of my personal stubbornness. Knowing full well, all that is required of me is to accept the Divine Invitation which is offered to me to change how I think. Especially when I realise all my worry and head bashing has proved to be so unproductive.

A Divine Invitation
By Hafiz

You have been invited to meet
The Friend.
Hafiz
The Great Sufi Master

No one can resist a Divine Invitation,

That narrows down all our choices
To just two:

We can come to God Dressed for Dancing,

Or

Be carried on a stretcher

To God’s Ward.

Astrology & Meditation

Astrology is a language of symbols, an alphabet if you like, when understood gives access into our past, present and possible future ways of acting and thinking. If how we act and respond to situations in the present is governed by how we have acted in the past then it is reasonable to think how we act or respond in the present will largely determine what our future responses to any given situation are likely to be. It seems very much as if rather than having a predetermined future thrust upon us from some sort of outside force or divine being we do in fact have free will to first think and act as we like and also to change how we think and act. If not free will then we certainly have a choice about whether we react to situations in our normal manner or have the choice to say No to habitual response and allow some other response happen.

Imagine if every time you came in contact with a certain person the contact resulted in an exchange of anger or, on the other side, a very pleasant afternoon of whatever takes your fancy. Pretty soon if those encounters are repeated often enough they will become habits and a pattern of responses will be set up. This is pretty much how we act or react to the encounters life brings our way. It’s like building up our very own personal library of responses. Whenever we find ourselves in a known situation we open one of the books of responses from the library and act out according to what is written in the book or how we have conditioned ourselves to react. The same is true of being in unknown situations, we bring out the book dealing with unknowns and act according to how we have conditioned our self to act in the past. This library is our memory of past events.

The planets Sun/Moon/Saturn form the part of our consciousness we refer to as the ego, our sense of self. The Sun is the “I am” the idea of our inner hero or superman or woman. The Moon represents our emotional responses. It tells us how our hero reacts to other people and how it feels about our hero. Saturn is the mechanism tasked with keeping the hero safe and secure, our inner voice of caution. When our conditioned responses get fried we have trouble in responding in a truly free and open manner. To gain an insight into some of the layers of conditioning we have covered the ego with the meditation given below can help in understanding the symbolism of astrology.

                                                      Horoscope Meditation

1 Sit and orientate yourself with your head in heaven and your feet well anchored to the earth. See yourself growing roots from your feet down into the earth and become aware of these roots grounding you into and onto the earth. Feel supported by the energy of the universe gently stretching your neck and spine up to heaven and the energy of the earth gently pulling your legs and feet down into the ground.

2 Breathe in and out through the nose filling the lungs and becoming aware of the chest rising and falling. Falling with the inhalation and rising with the exhalation. As the breath comes in think “I am breathing” and smell the scent of a rose.

3 Focus your consciousness in the head and let it sink slowly into the centre of your head, through the jaw, neck and into the upper chest, where you point to when you say “I”. In this central point you see a white gold sun shining: allow yourself to sink slowly into this light as it surrounds you, where you are protected and at peace. Symbolically you are now in the circle at the centre of the horoscope. Fill this space as much as you can with your sense of self

4 Visualise your horoscope around you, looking left see the AC with its sign, then look right and see the DC with its sign. Below is the I.C. and above is the M.C. In this cross you feel strong and secure. This is the cross of matter, from here you reach out to others across the axis of encounter (A.C.-D.C.). Vertically is the axis of individuality where the individual rises up from the collective (D.C.) to the height of the individual existence (M.C.) Give some thought as to how you reach out and contact others and also what it is or how it is you would like to grow into and become.

5 As you find yourself sitting in the inner circle of your birth chart start to visualise the personality planets: Sun , Moon ý and Saturn, arranged as they are in your chart.

First turn your attention to the Sun: bring it in close and examine how you feel about your thoughts on your sense of self. Understand you are the most important being in your world……… see yourself as strong and capable to overcome anything which life sends your way.

After a while push it slowly back into its original place and bring in the Moon. Examine how you feel about your emotional nature. Ask yourself if your emotions are under your control…… are you giving freely of yourself or do you resent the demands placed upon you. Whatever and however you feel imagine yourself in control of your emotional state and see yourself giving freely to others and able to accept help and support when you need it. Then slowly restore the Moon to its original position.

Now do the same with Saturn, examining how you feel about what this planet represents to you. Saturn is the planet of boundaries and walls between yourself and others. It is what keeps us safe and secure. It is the memory of all that has happened to us ….. good and bad. Become aware of the power of this energy and as you do realise it is to be utilised and used for your protection but does not have to be the ruling force in your life.

6 When you wish to withdraw from the state of meditation or contemplation start to become aware of your breathing, breathing deeper with each breath and as you become more aware of the sounds around you slowly open your eyes and focus your attention on your surroundings. Sit in this space of conscious awareness for a few more breaths and then go through any closing procedure you use.

This meditation is based on that given by Bruno & Louise Huber in their book Transformation: Astrology As A Spiritual Path, and is included here with the permission of the Publisher HopeWell.
